Kathy Brewster

Kathy BrewsterChief Administrative Officer – Ambulatory
UC San Diego Health System 

As Chief Administrative Officer – Ambulatory at UC San Diego Health System, Kathy Brewster has broad, system-wide responsibilities for leading and directing clinic management. She will also lead efforts to improve ambulatory and outpatient access, standardize policies and practices in all ambulatory settings, and improve and monitor ambulatory clinical quality.  She brings to this position more than 25 years of experience in health care management involving staff development, physician partnerships, interdepartmental collaboration, human resources management, strategic planning, change management, organizational restructuring and fiscal oversight.

Previously, Ms. Brewster served as administrator of Ambulatory Operations for UC San Diego Medical Group and Medical Center Clinics. In this role, she was responsible for the oversight of all aspects of Ambulatory Operations. She provided strategic direction for patient care and quality compliance, and was responsible for budget development, financial data and variance reporting for over 52 clinic practices. Ms. Brewster launched a customer service program that included training for more than 400 employees and she was instrumental in Ambulatory Operations’ contributions to the Health System’s ongoing accreditation from The Joint Commission.

Ms. Brewster worked to create operational partnerships by developing strong relationships with division administrators and physician leadership. She provided oversight for multiple successful move projects to off-site clinic practices and also developed and implemented the Leader Rounding Model to create higher visibility of clinic managers and administrative leadership.

Ms. Brewster also served as associate administrator and management services officer for UC San Diego Medical Group. Prior to her arrival at UC San Diego Health System, Ms. Brewster was practice administrator for South Bay Women’s Health Group in San Diego. She also previously served as business services manager and regional manager for Scripps Mercy Hospital. Ms. Brewster earned her master’s degree in organizational management and her bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix. She is a member of the University Health System Consortium (UHC) and Primary Care Operations.
