Thank you to the more than 4,400 employees who completed the 2014 Employee Opinion Survey. We appreciate your engagement and feedback, as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our patient care and make this an environment where caring, commitment, creativity, diversity, integrity, safety and teamwork are fostered.
Now that the Employee Opinion Survey is closed as of July 11, Press Ganey (the third-party survey vendor) will review and analyze the responses. Below is the general timeline to review results, as well as develop and implement action plans.

A: The online Employee Opinion Survey is your chance to rate your engagement on a variety of topics that affect your day-to-day work and contribution here at UC San Diego Health System. Your ideas will help the Health System become a better place to work, as well as continue to improve the quality of our patient care. Choosing to take the survey ensures that your voice is heard.
In addition, UC San Diego Health System plans to be re-designated as a MAGNET and The Leapfrog Group organization. The survey includes questions related to general engagement, MAGNET, patient safety for The Leapfrog Group and leadership/change readiness.
A: The survey covers questions from three domains that have statistically been correlated to commitment and high performance: organization, employee and leadership. There are roughly 45 questions, with three open-ended questions. The survey is shorter this year because you will only be asked to rank each item once; the ranking “how important is it” from prior years has been dropped.
A: Your submitted answers provide valuable insight about our organization from the inside out. Your management team will receive the summarized and confidential survey results for your area. In addition, summarized survey results will be posted online at employeeopinion.ucsd.edu. Health Sciences Human Resources will also work with Health System and clinically oriented Professional Schools’ leadership to identify themes from the survey and support departments in action planning around results.
A: Yes. Participation reports – listed by department – will be updated on a daily basis and can be found on this Intranet site (employeeopinion.ucsd.edu). The overall health care system goal is 75 percent participation.
Survey Logistics/Technical Questions
A: You will be able to complete the survey between Monday, June 9 and Friday, July 11.
A: Completing the survey should take you approximately 15 – 20 minutes.
A: A third-party external vendor, Press Ganey, conducts the survey so all responses and identities are confidential. Responses are sent directly to Press Ganey, not to UC San Diego Health System.

A: Health Sciences Human Resources will provide information on computer labs, and times for staff to take the survey at both Hillcrest Medical Center and Thornton Hospital.
A: No. The survey should be completed within your normal working hours. If needed, work with your direct supervisor to schedule time to take the survey.
A: UC San Diego Health System invites anyone to participate in the survey who has held an active employee status (Career, Limited appointments) with UC San Diego Health System since April 1, 2014.
A: Health Sciences Human Resources took a workforce snapshot on April 1, 2014 to determine all employees with an active employment status on that date. If you were or have been on leave since April 1, 2014, your employee status is considered “inactive.” This year’s survey is restricted to employees with an active employment status on April 1, 2014. This ensures that all feedback gathered is current.
A: You were recently invited to take the UC San Diego campus survey “Staff @ Work.” Therefore, School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy staff will not participate in this year’s Health System Employee Opinion Survey. Health Sciences Human Resources will combine the survey results from the School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy with the Health System results in order to identify common themes and develop an overarching Health Sciences enterprise-wide action plan.
A: The HR department is setting up several laptops in the campus cafeterias so employee who don’t have computer access can still complete and submit their responses to the Employee Opinion Survey. Please see the dates/times/locations below.
