Sputum to r/o pneumocystis carinii
should be induced. At Hillcrest contact skin testing at ext 35890 for
inducement. At Thornton contact Respiratory Therapy @ pager 6202 for inducement.
It is also recommended that sputum to r/o malignant cells be induced. If
possible, have the patient cough up specimen directly into a 4 oz. plastic
container. Do not add any fixative to container. Send fresh. A Cytopathology
requisition form must be completely filled out to include pertinent clinical
history as well as the requesting physician's pid number. All specimens for
routine processing and silver stain must be in the laboratory at Hillcrest by no
later than 08:30am, Monday through Friday. The following work day, "rush" or
"same day" cases must be received by the laboratory at Hillcrest no later than
12:30pm with "rush" written on the requisition form and the pager number of the
requesting physician. Write "rule out fungus and/or pneumocystis carinii" on the
requisition if these organisms are suspected. These cases will be stained and
read out by the end of the day. At Hillcrest after hours, weekends and holidays
place the specimen in the refrigerator located in the closet next to the
surgical pathology Tissue Gross Room #2-304. |
