| Special Instructions: |
Place CSF into sterile leak proof
tubes available in lumbar puncture trays. Make sure tube closures do not create
an aerosol when the tubes are opened. Unless ordered for AFB culture only,
submit at least three tubes of fluid to ensure adequate sample for analysis in
Chemistry, Hematology, or for other bacteriological cultures. All tubes must be
delivered first to the Microbiology laboratory to avoid the potential for
contamination of the material. If ordered for tests other than AFB culture, the
Microbiology laboratory will record the description and volume of the fluid on
the "cell count" requisition; take the appropriate tube(s) for culture and give
the remaining request slips and samples to the courier delivering the samples.
The courier will take the samples and requestcards to the SCRAP lab processor
who will disburse the remaining samples to the Chemistry, Hematology, and
Cytology laboratories. |
