Method: Tissue Culture
Special Instructions: AMNIOTIC FLUID: Collect in sterile tube or syringe. Deliver immediately to laboratory. BIOPSIES: Place in sterile container and send IMMEDIATELY to laboratory or place in viral transport media and send to laboratory as soon as possible. BODY FLUIDS: Place in sterile container and send as soon as possible to laboratory. BRONCHIAL WASHINGS/BRUSHINGS/LAVAGES: Send collection container to laboratory as soon as possible. BUFFY COATS: Collect 1-7 mL of blood in a heparinized (green top) tube. Place on ice and deliver to laboratory. CSF: Deliver CSF tube to laboratory as soon as possible. INFANT NP Vigorously swab area and place swab into transport tube. Break off tip to fit container and transport to laboratory as soon as possible. SPUTUMS: Obtain specimen in sterile container or collection cup. Transport to laboratory as soon as possible. THROAT SWABS: Swab throat and place swab in viral transport media. Break off tip to fit container. Place on ice and forward to laboratory as soon as possible. TRACHEAL ASPIRATES: Transport collection container to laboratory as soon as possible. URINES: Collect fresh urine in sterile container and transport immediately to laboratory. SWABS: Obtain viral transport media and swabs from laboratory.
