Do not use wood, plastic, or calcium alginate swabs (Calgiswab). |
| 2. Sterile screw-capped tube containing 0.5 mL of sterile
physiological saline, water, or phosphate buffered saline (PBS). |

| Method of collection: |
1. Carefully insert a flexible-wire Dacron-tipped swab
through one nostril into the posterior nasopharynx and rotate the swab.
Keep the swab near the septum and floor of the nose. |
| 2. Place the entire swab into the transport tube, immersing
the tip into the fluid. |
| 3. Repeat the collection steps using a second swab for the
other nostril and place the swab |
| into the same tube. |
| 4. Cap the tube and label with first and last names, DOB, or
other unique identifier. |

Transport to the specimen on ice to
the laboratory ASAP. Store at -70C. |
