Scheduling requirements : All requests for MBC determinations must be approved by the attending infectious disease specialist. All requests for MBC determinations must be approved by the attending infectious disease specialist.
Method: N/A
Special Instructions: Patient's infecting organism needs to be saved to perform this test. Most isolates are available for at least one week from date of culture. If the isolate has not been saved, the procedure cannot be done. Physician must specify the collection date, culture site, pathogen to be tested, as well as which antimicrobials are to be tested against patient's infectious agent. Contraindications: Organisms that are too fastidious to grow in broth media will not be acceptable for MBC testing. Any isolate that is totally resistant by MIC technique, to the antibiotic requested for MBC, will not be tested for MBC.
