GENERAL LABORATORY NOTES for SPECIAL COAGULATION LAB


Specimens are to be delivered to the Special Coagulation Laboratory M-F 8am to 4:30pm and to the SCRAP 

laboratory after hours, weekends and holidays.

 

All samples and requisitions must be properly labeled with the patient's name, Medical record number and Patient number.

The requisition must also have the Ward/Specimen source, Date, Time of draw, Physician name, PID number, and Diagnosis.

 

Specimens from other institutions must have appropriate documentation and authorization to perform tests requested.

 

All tests performed in the Special Coagulation Laboratory use either special tubes (prepared in the laboratory) with buffered

citrate or 3ml draw blue hemogard tubes containing 3.2% sodium citrate.

 

Blue top tubes (3 ml)

     Must be delivered within 2 hours from the time of draw. Samples that are stored overnight must be centrifuged, plasma separated, stored at -60oc and shipped on dry ice.

 

 

!!DRVVT samples!! **MUST** be double spun before freezing.
