UC San Diego Health System is currently in the process of contracting with many overseas insurance providers. As with insurance companies in the United States it is best to contact your insurance provider directly to discuss your benefit coverage and whether UC San Diego is contracted with your provider. Note: Travel insurance usually only covers emergencies, such as an automobile accident or other unplanned injury or illness.
Once you are scheduled to receive care at UC San Diego Health System your case will be referred to the Financial Counseling Office for assistance with billing and payment arrangements.
An assigned financial counselor will then:
- Help you to understand your insurance benefits, co-payments and financial responsibilities.
- Obtain quotes for your care so you know what to expect and can make payment arrangements. Note: There are significant discounts for cash payments.
Acceptable Forms of Payment
UC San Diego Health System accepts the following methods of payment:
- Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
- Traveler’s checks
- U.S. check
- Wire transfer (please contact us for instructions)
Before each appointment, our financial counselor will confirm your appointment registration and request a deposit for the visit. The amount of your deposit will be based on an estimate prepared for the specific services or treatments you are seeking. Please note that actual charges often vary from the estimate.
Before your departure, a financial counselor will be available to review all posted and estimated charges, and payments. If additional consultations or tests are performed, the financial counselor may request an additional deposit.
