Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic stroke is caused by a lack of blood flow to the brain. In an emergency, UC San Diego stroke physicians use catheters to open blocked arteries or give powerful rescue medications that dissolve blockages.

After a stroke, our physicians find and treat the source or cause of the blockage to prevent another stroke.

Hemorrhagic Stroke

Hemorrhagic stroke refers to bleeding in the brain. Spontaneous bleeding may be caused by high blood pressure or a structural lesion, such as an aneurysm. UC San Diego Health System has the power to help.
