Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease in which tissue that normally lines the utuerus grows outside of it, in places that can include the ovaries, bowel, or tissue lining the pelvis. Although it is common — an estimated 2 to 10 percent of women of reproductive age have endometriosis — it is a chronic disease without a known cure.
Endometriosis can cause painful periods and pelvic pain during intercourse and other times. Women with endometrosis can also have difficulty conceiving. Fortunately, effective treatments and surgeries are available.
The UC San Diego Health System’s Center for Endometriosis Research and Treatment (CERT) is an innovative, multidisciplinary program for women suffering from endometriosis.
Since endometriosis can have far-reaching effects in the body, we have a group of dedicated clinical specialists to address the varied needs of women with this serious disease.
With a broad, multidisciplinary team of clinical and scientific experts with an interest in endometriosis, CERT is in a unique position to apply the power of academic medicine in a unique and multidisciplinary manner.
