People with cystic fibrosis require a diet much higher in calories and fat than the typical diet. According to the CF Foundation there is a close connection between nutrition and lung health. The extra calories are needed to help support the greater amount of energy required for breathing, as well as to make up for the inability of the body to absorb all of the necessary nutrients from food.
Increasing calories is not, however, an excuse to consume all of the junk food you can. It is still very important to be eating a balanced diet to promote good health.
