Radiology

The UC San Diego Health System Radiology Department offers a comprehensive range of imaging services and advanced procedures to diagnose a wide variety of conditions.

Our radiology specialists have expertise in virtually every imaging area, including:

  • Abdominal imaging
  • Breast imaging
  • Neuroradiology
  • Interventional and vascular radiology
  • Musculoskeletal radiology
  • Ultrasound

Additionally, the department has five state-of-the-art MRI scanners used for leading-edge patient diagnostics and care as well as groundbreaking MRI research.

In 2005, UC San Diego installed San Diego’s first clinical 3T MRI system at the Moores Cancer Center. At twice the field strength of the conventional 1.5T “high field” scanners, it is the most advanced MR imaging system in the county.

The department is chaired by William G. Bradley, Jr. MD, PhD, FACR, one of the world's leading experts in MRI. Dr. Bradley and Dr. Graeme Bydder are both pioneers in what is generally considered to be the most powerful imaging technique available. Both have been involved in MRI since the late 1970s and have contributed substantially to the world’s literature in this field.
