Costs, Incentives and Reimbursements
Did you know that some of your costs associated with the UC San Diego Weight Management Program may be reimbursed by your insurance plan?
As you know, weight loss can have a tremendous impact on your health – especially if you have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol and many other conditions. At the UC San Diego Weight Management Program, we work closely with you and your physician to understand your medical condition in relation to your weight management goals. Now more than ever, people who come to us with a diagnosis of obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and other conditions are getting reimbursed for their weight management costs related to clinic visits. Some health plans are also providing incentives for individuals to participate in weight management programs.
Our specially designed weekly weight management classes that help you build skills to achieve successful, long-lasting weight loss may be reimbursed by your health plan. In addition, if you participate in the medically supervised weight-loss program, your follow-up visits and lab work may be reimbursable. Food costs are generally not reimbursable.
Check with your health plan to find out if you can be reimbursed for your weight management program costs. Determine what steps need to be taken if your health plan will reimburse you. Your doctor can provide a letter of medical necessity which can be useful when seeking health insurance reimbursement for these costs.
