UC San Diego Patient Testimonials
What our patients have to say:
James Hawkins - Chief Administrative Officer/Assistant Director of the International Center
Open enrollment is coming up again soon, so I would like to encourage you to think about switching to UC San Diego health care through Health Net. I would literally be dead if I had stuck with that other hospital and their cheap attitude. They never once took blood tests during my annual exams, which would have revealed the beginning of my cancer. When I switched to UC San Diego, my annual exam revealed the abnormality in my blood test results. I was called at home by my primary care physician and referred that very evening to the hematology/oncology staff at Moores UCSD Cancer Center. No test or expense have been spared in my on-going treatment from my world-renowned physician, Dr. Catriona Jamieson, and her incredible team, all of whom have been with me every step of this journey. They are the greatest! To quote Dr. Jamieson, "We are your team, and you are the captain." That says it all. The big question is: are you completely satisfied with your health provider? Well, are you? If the answer is, no, may I suggest that you consider changing providers. Switching to UC San Diego saved my life. Period. Think about it. No pressure from me.
Pamela Everett - Physician Referral Service
I was with Kaiser Permanente for 20 years, but when I found out I needed surgery, I switched to UC San Diego Health System. The robotic surgeries and technologies that UC San Diego Health System offers its patients are so much more advanced than other health care systems.
My primary care physician (PCP) is fabulous! She called me at home at 7:30 p.m. after my post surgery exam to let me know that I had an infection, and she just faxed over a prescription to my nearby pharmacy. My physician at Kaiser had never done that for me. Also, when I called in for a prescription refill for the first time, my PCP's nurse called within an hour to let me know my refill was called in - now that's great service! At Kaiser, you have to wait one to two days.
Overall, I like the continuous respect I receive not only from my PCP, but my surgeons. I have had two surgeries in the last two months, and I am doing wonderfully. My medical issues were addressed and handled in a very efficient and compassionate manner and that is why I will never leave UC San Diego Health System.
Aaron Byzak - Director of Government Affairs
In 2007, I was working for another health care provider in North County. In July of that year, my son Adam was born, and within a few months, was diagnosed with Albinism - a genetic condition that results in no pigment production and limited eye sight. I instantly knew that it was imperative that we get Adam to the Shiley Eye Center at UC San Diego Health System for care because of the expertise of their world-renowned staff.
Our experience at Shiley Eye Center has been incredible. From the first appointment, we knew that we had made the right choice. Dr. David Granet was able to provide insight into Adam's condition and sight prognosis, which instantly provided a tremendous amount of relief for my wife and I. Since then, Adam's sight has improved significantly, and we continue to see Dr. Granet regularly. We can't imagine being anywhere else.
As someone who has worked in health care for a number of years in San Diego, I have always been familiar with the clinical expertise of UC San Diego Health System's doctors and staff. However, it wasn't until 2007, that I was able to personally experience the care here.
I think that UC San Diego Health System's clinical excellence is a direct result of the ability of our staff to conduct research, train tomorrow's health care professionals and provide top-notch clinical service. It's one of those situations where the organization's mission is truly realized. As a matter of fact, my experience with UC San Diego helped solidify my decision to begin working here in 2009.
