David Mier

David Mier

David Mier is coordinator of Government and Community Affairs for UC San Diego Health Sciences and has worked here since 2011. The Department of Government and Community Affairs is responsible for all legislative and community relations activities at the local, state and federal levels, in the private, public and government sectors on behalf of UC San Diego School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and UC San Diego Health System.

Prior to joining the department, Mr. Mier worked as a business outreach coordinator for the South County Economic Development Council, managing business attraction and retention, as well as workforce development efforts throughout the South Bay area of San Diego. Additionally, he served as a municipal elections consultant for the Office of the City Clerk for the cities of Rosemead and Arcadia.

Mr. Mier studied at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego for two years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, with a double major in political science and philosophy from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He is fluent in Spanish.

Upon graduating from California State Polytechnic University, Mr. Mier was selected to represent the university as a Leon Panetta Fellow. He received firsthand instruction at the Panetta Institute for Public Policy from current U.S. Secretary of Defense Panetta, and was subsequently assigned to work for Congressman David Dreier, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Rules, in his congressional office in Washington, D.C. He was an active volunteer at the Pomona Self-Help Legal Access Center, as part of the AmeriCorps-JusticeCorps.

Mr. Mier is currently a Hoover High School student mentor and was recently elected secretary of the Latino American Political Association (LAPA), the only bipartisan Latino political organization in San Diego County. He was also the recipient of the San Diego Workforce Partnership 2011 Stewardship Award.
