 Paul CraigPaul Craig, a nurse attorney, is the Chief Human Resources and Risk Officer at UC San Diego Health Sciences. He is responsible for multiple programs, including UC San Diego Health System’s Human Resources, Risk Management, Regulatory Affairs (Licensing and Accreditation), Patient Experience and Service Excellence, and Guest Relations. Mr. Craig serves as a member of the Executive Committee of UC San Diego Health System’s Senior Management Team and is chair of the Human Resources Steering Committee.

Prior to coming to UC San Diego Health System in 2004, Mr. Craig worked at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco as chief operating officer. Previously he served as a risk management consultant with the MMI Companies.

Mr. Craig received his doctor of jurisprudence degree with honors from the DePaul College of Law in Chicago. For five years, he practiced law, specializing in medical malpractice litigation and health care law after having worked for a decade as a registered nurse in intensive care units and emergency departments in Chicago.

Mr. Craig has authored a number of articles and book chapters on various topics related to health care law and risk management. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Society for Human Resource Management and the American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers.

Mr. Craig lives in La Mesa with his wife, two dogs and a cat. Interests include cycling, fine arts and travel. He considers his career at the UC San Diego Health System as the highlight of one long and happy life.
