Patient Rights & Responsibilities

The physicians and staff at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to all patients. As a patient, you have certain rights regarding your medical care. These include:

  • The right to receive considerate and respectful care that values you as a unique individual who holds personal values, cultural, religious, and spiritual traditions, and personal abilities and preferences.
  • The right to be informed concerning your condition, treatment options and possible outcomes, and the names of persons delivering your care. As appropriate, this also applies to your family or other caregivers.
  • The right to make choices by participating in care decisions: accepting or refusing treatment; making advance directives; identifying your healthcare agent; and accepting or declining participation in research.
  • The right to personal privacy in the receipt of your care, and confidentiality in the management of your protected medical information and communications.

You also have certain responsibilities to your healthcare providers. These include:

  • Respect and consideration toward the rights of other patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Providing accurate information for your healthcare team about prior illnesses, your pain, medications, and allergies.
  • Participation in your healthcare. Ask if you need more information to better understand your health status or treatment options.
  • Clear, accurate, and updated insurance information at all visits.

If you feel your needs have not been met, we encourage you to call the Patient Relations (We Listen Program) line and offer your feedback: (619) 543-5678.
