Putting Advanced Imaging Technologies to Work for You
At UCSD, our arsenal against breast cancer includes state-of-the-art technologies that can give us fantastic insights into your particular case. What makes our high-tech imaging equipment truly valuable, however, is the team of talented, dedicated people who unlock and understand the intricacies and nuances it can reveal.
UCSD’s peerless team of specialized radiologists focus on reviewing and interpreting only breast images, from digital mammograms and ultrasounds to images via CT (computerized tomography), MR (magnetic resonance) and optical scanners. Working in a department chaired by one of the world’s leading experts in MRI, William G. Bradley Jr., M.D., Ph.D., FACR, they have centered their radiology careers in the field of breast imaging. These fellowship-trained mammographers and radiologists bring a whole new level of dedication to their field and a passion for research to understand still more.
New Techniques Capture Clearer Images
We were San Diego’s first (and until recently only) center to offer full-field digital mammography, which can help physicians find – and see in greater definition via computer enhancement – more breast cancers than standard mammography based on x-ray films. For patients, digital mammography usually is quicker than standard mammography and requires fewer repeat images.
We also have San Diego’s first clinical 3 Tesla ultrahigh-field MRI system, which has double the strength of conventional scanners. It’s the most advanced magnetic resonance imaging system available in the county, providing the highest resolution available in breast MRI.
