The Leukemia and Lymphoma Unit provides clinical care and research relating to leukemias, lymphomas and other hematologic cancers such as myeloma, myelodysplasia and Hodgkin’s disease. Available diagnostic tests for these conditions include chromosome and molecular analysis, flow cytometry and expert hematologic pathology services. Patients are treated using the best conventional approach as well as clinical trials of the newest therapies.
Recently pioneered therapeutic approaches to these diseases at UCSD include gene therapy for leukemia, novel vaccine therapies and new monoclonal antibodies, and novel approaches to stem cell transplantation. Patients are reviewed by multidisciplinary teams that include hemato-pathologists, medical oncologists, bone marrow transplant physicians and other professionals.
CLL Research Consortium
The CLL Research Consortium (CRC) is a multi-institutional program project, funded by the National Institute of Health that has brought together institutions that, under normal circumstances, would not engage one another as they currently can under the auspices of CRC. The University of California, San Diego is one of the seven clinical sites collaborating in this program.
