Leukemia/Lymphoma

Thomas Kipps MD

Although a diagnosis of leukemia or lymphoma can be frightening, many new therapies and potential cures are available.  At Moores UCSD Cancer Center, our team of specialists, who are internationally recognized for their expertise in cancers of the blood and lymphatic system, will develop a treatment plan designed specifically for you.

Our Leukemia and Lymphoma Unit provides diagnosis, clinical care and research relating to leukemias, lymphomas and other hematologic cancers such as myeloma, myelodysplasia and Hodgkin’s disease. Our diagnostic tests for these conditions include chromosome and molecular analysis, flow cytometry and expert hematologic pathology services.

Our patients are treated using the best conventional approaches as well as clinical trials of the newest therapies.  Recently pioneered therapeutic approaches to these diseases at UCSD include gene therapy for leukemia, novel vaccine therapies and new monoclonal antibodies, and the latest approaches to stem cell transplantation.

Your case will be regularly reviewed by multidisciplinary teams that include hemato-pathologists, medical oncologists, bone marrow transplant physicians and other professionals. In addition, our Science of Caring support services will help you manage symptoms, as well as any psychological or social problems that might arise, ranging from concerns about appearance and employment, to talking with a spouse or family member.  You’ll also have access to patient and family support groups that meet throughout San Diego County.

CLL Research Consortium

The CLL Research Consortium  (CRC) is a multi-institutional program project, funded by the National Institutes of Health that has brought together institutions that, under normal circumstances, would not engage one another as they currently can under the auspices of CRC. The University of California, San Diego is one of the seven clinical sites collaborating in this program.
