Lung Cancer Unit

A diagnosis of lung cancer can be terribly frightening. At the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, we’re here to provide you with the best possible care. While there may not be a cure for all types of lung cancer, there are treatments to improve well-being or prolong life.

Dr. Lyudmila Bazhenova, a medical oncologist with special expertise in lung cancer, oversees your care, following you through initial diagnosis, treatment decisions, specialized procedures and follow-up.  In a regularly scheduled lung-cancer meeting, she will review your case with other team members, including surgeons, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists (lung specialists), and additional specialists.  Your specific medical condition is discussed from all treatment perspectives, and an individualized treatment plan is designed specifically for you.

Because lung cancer is such a life-threatening disease, it is important to receive your care at a top-ranked center with a team of multidisciplinary specialists.  San Diego’s only National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Moores UCSD Cancer Center receives patient referrals from throughout the nation.  As our patient, you’ll receive an individualized treatment plan from a team of highly trained, compassionate healthcare providers who pledge to follow you throughout your care. 

A New Level of Caring

As a patient of the Moores Cancer Center, you’ll become part of an acclaimed Science of Caring  support service, where we’ll help you manage symptoms, as well as the many psychological and social problems that can arise – ranging from concerns about appearance and employment, to talking with a spouse or family member.  You’ll also have access to a Lung Cancer Support Group and an annual Focus on Lung Cancer Day, where you’ll interact and hear from medical experts and lung cancer survivors.
