University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP)

The University of California Retirement Plan provides retirement income for eligible employees and their eligible survivors and beneficiaries. UCRP is a governmental defined benefit plan in which benefits are calculated based on such factors as a member’s salary, age, and years of service credit.

You are eligible for membership if you are:

  • Hired to work at UC continuously for at least 50% time for one year or longer, you're automatically an active member of UCRP
  • Appointed for less than 50% time or less than one year and accumulate 1,000 hours on pay status during 12 consecutive months. UCRP membership continues despite changes in your appointment rate or time worked, as long as employment is continuous.

Membership guarantees that once you are vested, you are entitled to future retirement benefits from the Plan. Plan membership is automatic and mandatory for eligible employees.
