Hiring | Recruitment

The recruitment, interview, and selection processes are important components to successful hiring.  They ensure that the staff hired has the appropriate skills and job competencies for excellent job performance.  In addition, these processes are instrumental in ensuring that UC San Diego Health System's Power of Excellence program is utilized in the overall selection.

The Recruitment Team at UC San Diego Health System works closely with each hiring manager throughout the hiring process to find the best candidate for each job.  Each member of the Recruitment Team is highly trained in all areas of recruitment and the hiring process for both external and internal new hires; in addition, each member is committed to hiring staff which exemplify UC San Diego's Health System's Power of Excellence program.

How to Start a Recruitment

The following criteria must be met prior to posting a new job:

  • Be within your flex budget for the specific job category requested.
  • The area is at least 95% compliant for all performance evaluations.

Variable Positions:

  • If the position is variable and meets the above criteria, it will be considered approved if supported by the SMT member. 
  • Please complete the top of the PCB form and forward to the SMT member for signature.
  • If the position is Variable but does not meet the criteria, the position must be reviewed by the Position Control Board (PCB).
  • Please complete the entire form, gather an SMT signature and forward to the PCB for review.

Fixed Positions:

  • If the position is fixed and meets the criteria, the position must be reviewed by the Position Control Board (PCB). 
  • Please complete the entire form, gather an SMT signature and forward to the PCB for review.
  • If the position is fixed and does not meet the criteria, the position cannot be posted.

Definitions

For the purposes of the PCB process, variable and fixed positions will be defined as follows:

  • Variable Positions are positions that provide direct patient care as their primary function.  Examples include Nurses, Technicians, PT/OTs, Pharmacists, Lab Technicians etc.
  • Fixed Positions are support staff positions that do not provide direct patient care as their primary function.  Examples include Managers (including Nurse Managers), HUSCs, Administrative Assistants, Analysts, etc.

Process

  • Complete Position Control Form
  • Forward to your SMT for signature
  • Position is either posted or goes to Position Control Board based on the above criteria
  • If position needs to go to the board please fax completed form (with SMT signature) to Stevon Love at (619) 543-5635.
  • The board meets every 2 weeks and will review your request. Once reviewed you will get an approved/not approved response within 2 days.
