Obtain transport media (Stuarts) and
sterile cotton-tipped swabs from the Microbiology lab. See wound culture for
collection technique. Swabs should be submitted to the laboratory only when
aspirated purulent fluid, exudate, or biopsy material cannot be obtained. If
swabs are submitted, one swab should be provided for each procedure requested.
Specify fungal species suspected. Requisition must state specific site of
specimen and clinical diagnosissis. Fungal wound culture will include KOH prep
if sample requested for fungal culture only, or KOH prep is selected on
requisition. |
