Use a balanced salt solution
(e.g.,tis-u-sol) as the washing solution and collect specimen into a sterile
container. If specimen is grossly bloody add 1cc of 1000 unit/mL of heparin
solution to each 100mL of specimen. Keep specimen refrigerated if there is a
delay in transporting to the laboratory. Complete a Cytopathology requisition
form fully to include pertinent clinical history and the requesting physician's
pid number. At Hillcrest after hours, weekends and holidays place the specimen
in the refrigerator located in the closet next to the surgical pathology tissue
gross room (room #2-304). |
