The CK-MB index is a relative index
that is used to help differentiate noncardiac and cardiac sources of elevated
CK-MB. It is calculated as follows: C-MB index = CK-MB(ng/mL)/total CPK activity
x 100. The CK-MB index is automatically calculated whenever a C-MB is requested.
The index cannot be calculated if the total CPK activity is <80 IU/L or the
CK-MB is <4.0 ng/mL. This test is intended for the quantitative determination of
serum myoglobin as an aid in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction.
Effective 9/13/00 myoglobin can be ordered as a stat request and will be run
upon receipt in the Hillcrest Laboratory. |
