MICROBIOLOGY

Specimen requirements: Sterile Specimen Container or
  Transport Media Tube or
  Syringe
Unit of measure: N/A
Ideal sample: 5 mL for fluids / 2 swabs
Absolute minimum amount: 1 mL/ 1 swab
Method of collection: See individual type of sample.
Transportation: Deliver to lab as soon as possible (1 - 3 hours for swabs in transport; 30 mins - 1 hr. for fluids.
Label instructions: Specimen must be labeled with patient name and Medical Record Number.
Request test on form: Multi Labs/Micro/Viro/Serology ( 151-905 )

Routine turn around time: Negative cultures require 7 days.
