UC San Diego Health System Administrative Fellowship

UC San Diego Health System is no longer accepting applications for the 2015-16 Administrative Fellowship position.

The Administrative Fellowship at UC San Diego Health System is a one-year, full-time salaried program, which offers on-the-job training in the skills and responsibilities required of an administrator in a major academic health system. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Fellow becomes an entry-level administrator by assuming increasing levels of responsibility and working with administrators and staff at all levels of the organization.

The initial phase of the Fellowship consists of rotations throughout the Health System designed to educate and orient the Fellow to the functions and structure of the organization. Each rotation provides a link between a department’s role/function and relationship to other departments. The rotation experience allows the Fellow to experience and observe different managerial styles and develop a better understanding of the issues and challenges facing the Health System.

Experiential Model

The Fellow’s role is an active, participatory one. The Fellow attends all appropriate meetings and is involved in committee work. The feature that most distinguishes this program is hands-on experience. The Fellow is able to play a role of genuine importance both in UC San Diego Health System’s day-to-day administrative operations, and in the overall planning of its future. The opportunities are unlimited. The individuals who complete an administrative fellowship at UC San Diego Health System are in a unique position to gain entry into the field of healthcare administration.
