UC San Diego Medical Center is committed to on-going education for nurses at all levels and in all areas. We have a Nursing Education, Development and Research Department (EDR) consisting of Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists to meet this commitment. The EDR department works in conjunction with specific units to provide education and training to nursing staff based on identified learning needs, as well as provides more centralized education to the entire hospital. This structure works in accordance with the University of California San Diego Medical Center Nursing Plan for the Provision of Care by making formal/informal learning experiences available that include methods of evaluation which develop, maintain, and enhance nursing staff competencies.
