What Is a Men's Health Specialist?

A men's health specialist is a provider with unique expertise in the anatomy, function and diseases of the male reproductive system (testes, prostate and penis).

Our men's health specialists at UC San Diego Health include board-certified, fellowship-trained urologists and a physician assistant.

When Should You See a Doctor?

In the same way that a woman sees her OB/GYN regularly for check-ups and care, you are encouraged to regularly visit a men's health specialist for issues related to your reproductive system.

Do I Need a Referral for Care?

No. You can usually make an appointment with one of our men's health specialists directly without a referral. But if you have an HMO, your insurance plan may require a referral from your primary care physician.

Treatment for Enlarged Prostate

With age, the prostate enlarges. This condition can cause several problems with urination, including frequent urination and a weak flow. If medications have not resolved your symptoms, you should see a urologist for in-depth evaluation and treatment. We offer many surgical and nonsurgical approaches for treating your enlarged prostate, including the UroLift system and Rezum therapy.
