Big Support for Little Patients

Diana Cavagnaro(center) and George Bates, owner/operator of Designer Millinery in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, present a check for $5000 to support the UCSD Department of Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology Program.
Accepting on behalf of the
program
is Faith Kung, M.D. (left), UCSD chief and professor of pediatric
hematology/oncology and member of UCSD Cancer Center.
Also on-hand for the
festivities were (l-r) UCSD Pediatric Oncology patients Ruben Perez and
Ribelino Honorato, as well as Curtis Boer, standing in for his sister, Kailey,
who is a patient in the program. The
check represents the proceeds from
the 5th Annual Village Hat Shop Easter Bonnet Parade and Hat Contest,
which took place in the Gaslamp Quarter in April. During the fund-raising
event, co-chaired by Cavagnaro and Bates, children created millinery
masterpieces, which they then modeled in a special parade up Fifth
Avenue. The event also included clowns, face painting and an Easter egg
hunt at the Horton Grand Hotel. For
