UCSD CANCER CENTER FOUNDATION
ELECTS BOARD PRESIDENT, OFFICERS
The UCSD Cancer Center Foundation has elected Frank Goldberg of Rancho Santa Fe as its new board president. He is founder and president of Sea Financial Group, a San Diego-based real estate investment services company.
“The Cancer Center is indeed fortunate to have Frank Goldberg at the helm of its board of directors,” said David Tarin, M.D., Ph.D., director of UCSD Cancer Center. “He brings a strong business background to his new position, and is known as a highly effective leader. I look forward to our close working relationship for the benefit of the Cancer Center and the patients we serve.”
Goldberg and his wife, Lee, have been active members of the Foundation’s board of directors since 1988. They have had a longstanding commitment to support cancer research, and have been tireless in their efforts to raise funds to speed progress toward a cure.
“Lee’s father died of pancreatic cancer, and we are both deeply committed to doing what we can to reduce or eliminate cancer in all its forms,” he said.
Goldberg added that this is a particularly exciting time for the Cancer Center as it moves toward building a state-of-the-art clinical and research facility. Currently, the Center carries out its activities in multiple sites, which is less than optimal for patients, physicians, clinical staff or researchers.
“I’m proud to be a part of the effort to make this needed facility a reality,” he said. “Foundation board members have shown tremendous leadership through their personal financial support, and we will now focus our efforts on generating strong support from the broader community.”
The overall goal is to raise $100 million in private philanthropy to construct, equip and provide programmatic support for the new UCSD Cancer Center facility. Approximately $50 million has already been committed.
Also elected as officers of the board are:
|-Vice President, Development:||Jerry Katzin, La Jolla|
|-Vice President, Finance:||Andre Horn, Poway|
|-Vice President, Strategic Planning:||Howard Goldfeder, Rancho Santa Fe|
|-Secretary:||Cinda Lucas, Del Mar|
|-Past President/Nominating Committee:||Bill Corner, Rancho Santa Fe|
