The San Diego Division of the California Poison Control System (CPCS) provides twenty-four-hour information services to physicians on the toxicology, clinical signs and symptoms, and assessment and treatment of exposure to toxic substances. Information on poisonings, first-aid advice, referral, and poison prevention education is provided to the public. The CPCS handles nearly 80,000 calls per year on the entire spectrum of toxic substances. The Medical Toxicology Consultation Service provides inpatient and outpatient care for patients with known or suspected exposure to toxic at both UCSD Medical Center and Thornton Hospital.
