Tune into Channel 8 at 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 13 for a story on UCSD Medical Center's bedrest twins. The story features twins Danielle and Jenny Shutes and Kari and Lisha Schneider, and includes an interview with Alan Hargens, Ph.D., Orthopaedics. During their 30 days of strict bedrest, one of each set of twins exercises on a supine pressurized treadmill while still laying down. The bedrest mimics microgravity as experienced by astronauts in space. UCSD Orthopaedic researchers are studying whether the pressurized treadmill device will help astronauts defy some of the negative impacts of prolonged microgravity.

The $1.1 million endowment made by La Jolla residents Judith and Jack White was mentioned by various media, including the San Diego Union-Tribune, KOGO radio and Channel 9/51. The gift will endow the Judith and Jack White Chair in Cardiology and will support teaching and research in cardiology, and is one of 83 endowed chairs at UCSD.

Connie Saindon, a clinical director in the UCSD Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic, was interviewed by Channel 8 and provided tips on how to cope with the holiday after the loss of a loved one.

A front page story Nov. 26 in the San Diego Union-Tribune announced UCSD's plans to build a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) center next to the UCSD School of Medicine.
