RSS Feeds for UCSD Medical Center News

About RSS Feeds

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content such as news articles.
By subscribing to UCSD Medical Center’s RSS feeds, you can get automatic updates whenever a new article is published or an existing one is updated.

How RSS works

RSS content can be read using software called an RSS reader or RSS aggregator. You subscribe to an RSS feed by entering the feed’s link into the RSS reader, or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser.
If you’re already familiar with RSS feeds and simply want to access UCSD Medical Center content, the link is  http://www.UCSDmedicalcenter.com/rssfeed/.

How to get UCSD Medical Center RSS feeds

If you use Internet Explorer 7 (rather than earlier versions), your browser has a built-in RSS reader. If you don’t use IE7, please choose one of the other options below.

To set up RSS feed on IE 7:
Open Internet Explorer 7.
Paste http://www.UCSDmedicalcenter.com/rssfeed/ into the address bar.
When you first reach the RSS Feed page, you’ll see a yellow box up at the top of the page that tells you that you’re viewing a RSS feed. Click on “Subscribe to this feed.”  A dialog box will appear with the name of the feed (UCSD Medical Center News and Press Releases). Click the Subscribe button.
To view the feed:
Open Internet Explorer 7
Click: “Alt + J” or  click on the Favorites Center icon on the browser tool bar (a “star” icon below the address bar), then click the Feeds button
Click on “UCSD Medical Center News and Press Releases”

If you don’t use Internet Explorer 7, you can access the RSS feed by one of the following:
Check the RSS feed via a preconfigured Web link. 
Click on any of the following icons. Each is preconfigured to provide UCSD Medical Center content.

You may subscribe to the RSS feed through a reader. Here is a list of RSS readers. You may click on any of these and follow the instructions to install the reader. To subscribe to the UCSD Medical Center feed, copy and paste this link into the RSS feed field: http://www.UCSDmedicalcenter.com/rssfeed/

If you use the Mozilla Firefox 2.0 browser, you can use the live Bookmark feature to check the UCSD Medical Center feed.  Follow these steps:
To set up the feed:
Open Firefox.
Click Bookmarks, and then click Organize Bookmarks.
In the File Menu, click New Live Bookmark and type a name into the Name field.
Copy and paste http://www.UCSDmedicalcenter.com/rssfeed/ into the Feed Location field.
Type a description for the RSS feed into the Description field and click OK.
To verify that the feed is working:
Choose the UCSD Medical Center feed from the left hand column under Bookmarks and then double-click the article title from the list of articles in the right column.
Click File and then click Close to return to Firefox.
To view the feed:
Click the Bookmarks menu, and then expand the UCSD Medical Center feed to view the recent articles.

You can also set up the feed this way:
Open Firefox and paste http://www.UCSDmedicalcenter.com/rssfeed/ into the address bar on the Add Live Bookmark feature.
A dialog box will pop up. Select where you want to save the bookmark.
To view the feed:
Browse to this bookmark and view the list of articles from the UCSD Medical Center RSS feed. The bookmark will expand to show a list of articles from the last 14 days.
