Have you missed the open enrollment deadline?
Open enrollment for medical coverage in 2014 is now closed. You can still enroll in health insurance plans through Covered California if you experience a "life-changing event" such as getting married, divorced, or having a child. You will need to enroll within 60 days of your life-changing event. Alternatively, the next open enrollment period begins November 15, 2014 and goes through February 15, 2015. Background on the Affordable Care Act and Covered California
The Affordable Care Act aims to increase the number of Americans with health insurance and cut the cost of health care. The law provides financial assistance to help individuals, families and small businesses pay for health insurance.
Covered California is the state’s online “marketplace” for purchasing health insurance and getting financial assistance to help pay for it. If your income is limited, you may be eligible for free coverage through Medi-Cal. More information is available at coveredca.com.
Medical care provided by UC San Diego Health System is available through the health insurance exchange set up by the Affordable Care Act. Those who do not have insurance through their employer or another government program can purchase insurance through the Covered California health insurance marketplace.
