Overview: If you or someone you know is struggling with severe obesity, the UC San Diego Bariatric and Metabolic Institute can help. The program offers patients surgical and non-surgical solutions for long-term weight loss. During the seminar weight loss procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric band and gastric bypass will also be discussed. Our highly trained team of surgeons, nurses, nutritionists, exercise therapists and psychologists are dedicated to help guide you to a happier, healthier life. Attend an informational seminar and learn more. Please note, seminar attendance is required prior to a consult or surgery, and you have the option of attending in person or watching an online presentation.

Overview: Several times each year, UC San Diego Medical Center offers an informal social event where patients and community members have the opportunity to learn more about the UC San Diego Medical Center midwifery services. Limited space is also available before and after the event to take a tour of the Birth Center and Labor and Delivery suites. Tours require separate registration.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction:
First day of class in series: March 13, March 14

Overview: The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one daylong class on a weekend. This highly participatory, practical course includes:
- Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
- Inquiry exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
- Individually tailored instruction
- The first class session is considered an orientation/informational session
Hip & Knee Joint Replacement Class
Hillcrest Dates: 1st Wednesday of every month from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Classes are also offered in Spanish.
Location: UC San Diego Hillcrest, 5th floor conference room
Thornton Dates: 3rd Wednesday of every month from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Location: UC San Diego Thornton, Building 1 (located next to the Radiation Oncology PET/CT Center)
Overview: Learn more about hip or knee replacement surgery. Classes are taught by our multidisciplinary joint surgery team including nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions so that you feel comfortable with every aspect of the joint replacement process.

Stein Institute for Research on Aging - Lecture Series

Overview: This monthly lecture series covers a variety of health-related topics. Based on research conducted at UC San Diego, a nutritious diet can help you look and feel better, as well as help control weight. Overview: Sun Hats, Dolls and Stuffed Animals – Senior Behavioral Health Unit, 7E, is asking for donations of new or washable sun hats, dolls, and stuffed animals for senior inpatients. The dolls and stuffed animals will be given to selected agitated, hospitalized seniors with advanced dementia, and hats will be used by senior patients for use outside in the patio and healing horticulture garden.
