Security Breach Information - June 2009 |

On June 26, 2009, Moores UCSD Cancer Center confirmed that a security breach occurred and that it involved a number of electronic databases in the Cancer Center that stored personally identifiable information. Please be assured that the electronic medical record systems were not involved and are secure. The security incident did not involve any information that place patients at risk for identity theft, such as Social Security Numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers or driver license numbers. Authorities have been notified.
In addition, we have notified patients by letters because we are required by state law to notify consumers whenever a patient’s name and medical information might have been accessed without authorization. Although there is no reason to suspect identity theft, we have provided toll-free numbers to credit bureaus for the purpose of placing a free fraud-alert for 90-days:
