Clinical Trials

Adult Dermatology - Research

Dr. Tissa Hata and Dr. Richard Gallo currently have several ongoing clinical trials, including new biologic treatments for psoriasis, as well as new therapeutic and experimental studies on rosacea and atopic dermatitis/eczema. Please refer to the following links for more information:

Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema

UCSD Dermatology has several groups interested in the study of Atopic Dermatitis. Our research interests include ongoing studies into basic immunologic defects present in patients with atopic dermatitis (Gallo Lab) and therapeutic trials at UCSD and Rady Children's Hospital .

Our research also includes assessing novel therapies in hand eczema as well.

Psoriasis

UCSD Dermatology is involved in several projects including the understanding of the immune response of psoriasis patients, as well as multiple active clinical/therapeutic drug trials ongoing at UCSD and Rady Children's Hospital.

Rosacea

UCSD Dermatology has become a major contributor to the understanding of rosacea. Through translational research collaboration with the Gallo Lab, a number of ongoing studies are simultaneously expanding our understanding of the innate immune dysfunction in rosacea, while also determining the efficacy of novel, targeted therapies.

Skin Cancer

Dr. Brian Jiang and UCSD Dermatology are expanding our research efforts in the study of cutaneous malignancies such as melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinomas. We are assisted in this endeavor by our relationship with the Moores UCSD Cancer Center. Our goals are to establish UCSD as a Skin Cancer Center of Excellence.

Please contact Alvin Coda, MD or Maryam Afshar, MBBS, clinical research fellows at 858-657-7192 or email at ucsddermstudies@gmail.com if you would like more information about UCSD clinical trials.

Pediatric Dermatology Research

The Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology Research Group is involved in clinical studies of common and uncommon diseases, including acne, fungal infections, eczema (Atopic Dermatitis), warts and molluscum and psoriasis. For more information, visit their website.
