Stay out of direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher; apply it liberally and often. Use sunscreens with wide spectrum UV blocking activity (look for the following ingredients when you buy a sunscreen: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and/or Parsol 1789).

Wear protective clothing

wear a hat that shades your face, ears and the back of your neck

wear long-sleeved shirts

pick bright colors like blue, orange, or yellow

choose more tightly woven clothes

if you want extra protection, you can purchase UV-protective clothing

Wear sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection.

Avoid tanning beds. If you want a tan, use a self-tanner (and don't forget to apply sunscreen on top of the fake tan).
