In 2006, UCSD Medical Center was ranked 33rd in the nation for endocrinology by U.S. News & World Report.

The Division of Endocrinology/Metabolism provides consultation, diagnosis and management of endocrine and metabolic diseases, including:

• Diabetes mellitus and obesity
• Disorders affecting the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal cortex and reproductive organs
• Calcium and skeleton mineralization and metabolism
• Hypertension due to endocrine causes
• Disorders affecting cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism in relation to atherosclerosis

Special services include:

• The provision of glucose monitoring and insulin pumps for diabetics
• Diabetic education
• Supervision of diabetic management in the hospital

Specialized diagnostic procedures for:

• Genetically determined and secondary hyperlipoproteinemias
• Dietary counseling
• Drug management programs
