Fetal Surgery

For Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS)

The Fetal Surgery Program at UCSD was developed to provide minimally invasive in utero fetal therapy and diagnostic capability. Our goal is to cure or reduce the adverse outcomes resulting from fetal and placental conditions that may otherwise result in severe complications or long term, irreversible harm to the baby.  The cornerstone of our program is the treatment of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).

UCSD is one of a small group of medical centers nationwide that is providing this potentially life-saving treatment for unborn twins suffering from TTTS. By using a minimally invasive in utero procedure called Laser Photocoagulation, the Fetal Surgery Program at UCSD can offer you hope that your babies may live and be healthy despite this devastating diagnosis.

At UCSD, we will treat your unborn children as individual patients, providing the highest quality care and the best treatment options available anywhere in the country.  Our team is led by Dr. David Schrimmer, a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist.
