The Fetal Surgery Program at the University of California San Diego Medical Center is led by David Schrimmer, M.D., a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. The team includes Lynne Tobler, RN, Fetal Surgery Coordinator, and Gina James, RDMS, lead sonographer. In addition, the teams work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, radiologists, and anesthesiologists to ensure we are bringing the greatest level of expertise to care for you.
Our Philosophy of Care
We understand that you may have many questions and concerns about your pregnancy and potential treatments. Our team will ensure that you fully understand every detail of your condition, your babies’ condition, and the treatment options available to you. We will also review outcome information regarding the various treatment modalities. At UCSD, our goal is not simply to offer surgical expertise, but also to thoroughly educate you and your family. This will allow you to make informed decisions regarding your care and treatment options.
The members of our team have all independently chosen to pursue their professional careers in the University setting. This unique setting pushes us to stay on the leading edge of medical treatment and research, and allows us to bring you the very latest advancements in care. We are also dedicated educators, beginning first with our own patients.
For your reassurance, the Fetal Surgery Team is available 24 hours per day to address your medical emergencies.
