The Department of Medicine is a leading center for research, teaching and clinical care in internal medicine. With nearly 470 full-time faculty members and over 100 academic researchers, the Department of Medicine is the largest of the distinguished departments at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Founded in 1965, the Department of Surgery is heavily involved with continuing education for surgeons and physicians, both nationally and internationally.
