Ravinder K. Mittal, MD
Dr. Mittal obtained his medical degree from University of Delhi, India and completed his GI fellowship at Yale University. He has been interested in the physiology and pathophysiology of gastrointestinal motility since 1983. His work over these years has focused on the role of crural diaphragm as an antireflux barrier, pathophysiology of transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxation, muscle hypertrophy in spastic esophageal motor disorders and longitudinal muscle function in health and disease. More recently, his work has focused on the biomechanics of esophageal wall in relationship to its sensory and motor function, and the role of puborectalis muscle in fecal continence and incontinence. |

Debbie den Boer, RN
Debbie den Boer has been a nurse for over 30 years. She started her career in gastroenterology in 1978 in South Africa and gained a wealth of GI experience over the years, both abroad and in the States. Debbie has been a GI motility nurse for more than 15 years. She is very involved with the GI professional organizations SGNA, SCSGNA and SIGNEA as president, treasurer and board-member and has been editor of the Society of International Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates newsletter for the last 7 years. She has given presentations at many GI related conferences, nationally and internationally and has penned many publications as well as a chapter in the book: “Touched by a Nurse.”
Debbie joined UCSD in 2000 and was UCSD Nurse of the Year in 2003. |

April Hernandez
April Hernandez is Practice Coordinator for the GI Motility and Physiology Dept. Her tasks involve scheduling patients, interaction with patients, administrative duties and is securing a well run department. As medical assistant, she is also trained to perform the Hydrogen Breath Tests that are offered in this department.
