Remote Second Opinion Process
Step 4: Patient Case is Reviewed
When UCSD receives the patient materials, we will first do a thorough check of all documentation to it is complete, as the process cannot begin if information is insufficient or missing.
Referring physicians will receive egular updates on the progress of the second opinion consult, generally during our regular office hours, via the your preferred form of communication (for example: email, fax, teleconference, etc.).
Once we begun the review, further charges will be applied if additional medical records are sent and/or questions submitted.
When the UCSD physician or surgeon completes the second opinion medical consultation, the patient’s case will either be closed, or if requested, will be transferred for follow up treatment. If requested by the referring physician or patient, an in-person consult can be scheduled with a UCSD physician. Please contact UCSD International Services to inquire about this option.
Please note: documents and records submitted for the second opinion medical consultation will not be returned, unless requested by the patient. After six months of inactivity, medical records will be appropriately discarded.
