Financial Information for International Patients

Our  Financial Coordinator, Dottie Person, will help facilitate all financial arrangements for your visit to UCSD Medical Center. If you have insurance, Dottie  can help you with the following:

• Reviewing whether or not your insurance is accepted at UCSD Medical Center
• Helping you to understand your insurance benefits if UCSD Medical Center accepts your insurance
• Helping to supply you with billing information so that you can request reimbursement from you insurance company if UCSD Medical Center cannot accept your insurance

If you do not have insurance or do not have insurance that UCSD can accept, the Coordinator will provide a comprehensive estimate of UCSD charges so that you know what to expect, financially.

Acceptable Forms of Payment

UCSD Medical Center accepts the following methods of payment: 

• Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
• Traveler’s Checks
• US check
• Cash
• Wire transfer  (Please contact us for instructions)

Before each appointment, our Financial Counselor will confirm your appointment registration and request a deposit for the visit. The amount of your deposit will be based on an estimate prepared for the specific service and/or treatment you are seeking.  Please note, however, that actual charges often vary from the estimate.

Before your departure, a Financial Counselor will be available to review all posted and estimated charges, and payments.  If additional consultations and/or tests were performed, the Financial Counselor may request an additional deposit.
