The The REALIZE gastric band was designed with patient comfort and safety in mind. The band is made from a flexible silicone material and is the widest band on the market, which allows for secure placement around the stomach and less chance of band slippage. At UCSD Medical Center, our bariatric surgeons have extensive experience with the REALIZE band. At UCSD's Center for the Treatment of Obesity, the REALIZE band surgery takes about 40 minutes and can be performed on an outpatient basis with no required hospital stay. Most patients return to work and normal activities within 4 to 7 days.How the REALIZE Band Works
REALIZE Band works by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold by placing an adjustable band around the upper part of the stomach. The stomach pouch created by this adjustable band allows a small amount of food to be consumed. This process creates the sensation of fullness sooner and over time, hunger decreases.
