The mission of the UCSD Liver Center Research Program is to increase knowledge in the evaluation, management and treatment of a wide variety of liver diseases including:
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis C (Naïve, Relapsers and Nonresponder)
- Hepatitis C/HIV
- Complementary and Alternative Medicine
- Hepatocellular Carcinoma
- NAFLD (Fatty Liver Disease)
- Acute Liver Failure, End Stage Liver Disease
- Acute Variceal Bleeding
- Hepatic Encephalopathy
- Extracorporeal Devices.
The research program is also comprised of the Hepatology Neurobehavioral Research Program which is dedicated to study the effects of chronic liver diseases on emotional, social and cognitive functioning.
The research program is comprised of Hepatologists, Psychologists, Research Nurses, Research Coordinators, Research Assistants and Data Analysis. The research team works together to provide the latest in treatment options as well as to conduct research to further our understanding of liver disease progression.
