UCSD's MRI Institute facilities offer the latest in fast scanning and patient comfort techniques to reduce or eliminate claustrophobia and patient discomfort. However, sedation or pain medication is still sometimes required to complete exams.
Neither Hillcrest nor Thornton MRI facilities prescribe sedatives or pain medications. If you feel sedation or pain medication is needed to undergo a MRI procedure, please consult your physician prior to your appointment for an appropriate prescription.
Due to the affiliation with Rady Children's Hospital, any child requiring an MRI with anesthesia assistance will be referred to the Rady Children's Hospital MRI Center.
